WFEO Committee on Water releases the report “Engineering, Water and Smart Cities”

During the Global Engineering Congress held in Shanghai, China, from 13 to 15 October, the WFEO Committee on Water presented the book “ENGINEERING, WATER AND SMART CITIES“.

This book explores how engineering can transform urban environments into smart, resilient, and sustainable cities, with water as a central axis. It addresses challenges like climate change, ageing infrastructure, and urbanization, offering innovative solutions through technology, policy, and design.

Topics include:

  • Smart water systems,

  • sanitation,

  • flood control and

  • waterfront infrastructure

It highlights the role of engineers in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 6. Through case studies and global perspectives, the book promotes integrated, inclusive, and future-ready urban planning, emphasizing the convergence of digital tools, environmental stewardship, and human-centered development.
