The WFEO General Assembly, Shanghai, 17 October 2025

From 12 to 17 October 2025, the World Federation of Engineering Organizations 2025 General Assembly and Global Engineering Congress (WFEO 2025 GA & GEC) was held in Shanghai,co-hosted by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.

Highlights from its agenda included:

Elections of WFEO’s Executive Board and Executive Council members (Find out more here)

President-elect: Mr K.N. Gunalan, nominated by the American Society of Civil Engineers, was elected and will become WFEO President for a 2-year term, 2027-2029. Find out more about him here.

Executive Vice-president: Firas Bou Diab, nominated by the Federation of Lebanese Engineers, was elected for a 4-year term, 2025-2029. Find out more about him here.

The following National Members representatives were elected for a 4-year term, 2025-2029:

  • Mr. Marco Vinicio Vargas (Costa Rica)

  • Mr. Daniel Hanus (Czech Republic)

  • Mr. Yons Ayalew Tessema (Ethiopia)

  • Mr. Nick Zygouris (Greece)

  • Mr. Heru Dewanto (Indonesia) and

  • Mr. Fernando de Almeida Santos (Portugal)

  • Mr Oscar Sanchez (World Council of Civil Engineers) was elected to the position of International Member representative.

The GA approved the new hosts and chairs of a Standing Technical Committee (STC) and of a Working Group:

  • Committee on Disaster Risk Management hosted by the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (chair: Mr Federico Ferrario);

  • Working Group on System Engineering hosted by the INCOSE (chair: Ms Garima Bhatia)

Choice of the host of the WFEO 2027 General Assembly meetings and the World Engineers Convention 2027.

The proposal put on by the Society of Engineers-UAE was chosen.
The 2027 meetings and the World Engineers Convention 2027 will be held in Abu Dhabi.


At the end of the General Assembly meeting, WFEO President Mustafa Shehu formally transmitted the leadership of the Federation to President-elect Seng Chuan Tan.

Seng Chuan Tan will be WFEO President for the 2025-2027 biennium. Find out more about him here.
